Mary Roles, Principal

My first two years as a Principal were spent in North Minneapolis.  I began in 1995 as Principal at St. Hubert and became Director of School Operations in 2008.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from University of Minnesota- Duluth. I received my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, EdS Degree and Administrative Licensure for K-12 from University of St. Thomas.

I have been at St. Hubert School since 1994. Prior to coming to St. Hubert, I taught at St. John the Baptist in Excelsior for five years. I completed my undergraduate work at University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas.

I have been Student Service Coordinator since the fall of 2002.  Previous work experience includes floral designer in family owned business while attending Clarke College in Iowa, Engineer Recruiter in Michigan, Seminar Planner for engineers in Chicago and Connecticut, and aircraft scheduler for a St. Louis Corporation.  Since moving to Minnesota, I have run a small art business out of my home.

I graduated from Mankato State University and worked as a Life Insurance Underwriter and then a Systems Analyst for Prudential. Later I worked at IBM as a Business/Systems Analyst. I was involved as a volunteer at St. Hubert for many years before becoming a Kindergarten para-professional in 2002, then a para in 1st grade from 2003-2006. Currently, I am the School Office Manager.

I taught technology my first two years here and began teaching kindergarten in 2000.

My previous teaching experience includes 4th grade at St. Raphael's in Crystal for 10 years.  I began at St. Hubert in 1996 and directed the SACC program for six years, working with Kindergarten students. I began teaching full time Kindergarten in 2002.

I graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1989. I taught first grade in Illinois for 5 years. After moving to MN, I taught first grade for Edina Public Schools for 4 years. I spent several years away from teaching raising my three children. During that time, I was a volunteer and guest teacher at St Hubert School. I started teaching at SHS in 2008. I am thrilled to be teaching first grade again!

I started at St. Hubert in 2007. Previously I had been teaching third grade at Most Holy Trinity in St. Louis Park. I went to school at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin and earned a degree in Sociology with a minor in Leadership and Human Services. I then returned to Minnesota and pursued my teaching license at Hamline University in St. Paul. I am currently working on my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading Certificate at University of St. Thomas.

Since I was in 7th grade I knew that I wanted to be a teacher and I have never regretted my decision. I have taught a variety of grades but have my most years of teaching experience with 5th and 3rd grades. My first year at St. Hubert was in 1981 so I have seen many changes firsthand.  In 2007 I switched to 4th grade - we looped with our homeroom students.

In 2007, I earned my MA in Curriculum and Instruction, also from the University of St. Thomas. Before coming to St. Hubert's taught 2nd grade at Richardson Elementary in North St. Paul, MN. I grew up in this parish and taught 5th grade here as a long-term sub after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelors degree in Broad Field Social Studies Secondary Education. After a year in China in 2001, I returned to teach 5th grade for the 2002-2003 school year.  My husband and I then joined the staff of a missions organization and spent another two years in China before returning to the U.S. in 2007.  I love watching others grow in faith and was thrilled to start teaching 7th and 8th grade religion and writing at St. Hubert in the fall of 2008.

I graduated from Moorhead State University and was a teacher and coach at Mahnomen (MN) High School. I was a physical education and health teacher at Christ the King School in Atlanta, GA for two years. I was also an assistant football and girl's lacrosse coach at St. Pius X Catholic High School. I have been teaching at St. Hubert since 2006.

I graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in K-12 Physical Education and Coaching.  I started teaching in 1991 in South Minneapolis, and began teaching at St. Hubert in 1995.  I have been a director and coach for  Hornet Basketball Camp since 1999.  I've also spent time coaching boys varsity basketball at St. Clair High School, Bloomington Kennedy High School, and Holy Family Catholic High School.

In August 1999, I joined St. Hubert as the Director of Bands. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH and in May 2008 my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Thomas University.  I have taught private lessons in my home and in a studio environment for over10 years. At age 10, I began playing the flute and have since acquired the ability and love to perform on all band instruments.

Before coming to St. Hubert, I taught for five years in Nevada and one year at several Catholic grade schools in the southwest Twin Cities area. I graduated with a B.S. in Music Education from Minot State University in North Dakota. In the summer of 2007, I completed a masters program at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ.

I have a BA in Physical Education with an emphasis in Adapted Education from Luther College in Decorah, IA. I also received a coaching endorsement. I taught in the Richfield School District before accepting a sales position in the transportation industry. In 2003, I received my MN teaching license and I guest taught at St Hubert and various other Catholic and public schools. I joined the St Hubert staff in 2007 as an educational assistant, recess supervisor and in-house guest teacher when needed.

After graduating from Chaska High School, I attended the College of St. Benedict.  In 1998 I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, with concentrations in Mathematics and Spanish.  I have taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in a multi-age classroom in southwest Minnesota, and 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Guardian Angels School in Chaska.  I began working in the SACC room and as an educational assistant at St. Hubert in 2008.

I started working at St. Hubert's Church as a Receptionist in 2008.  I also worked as a substitute Paraprofessional for District 112.  In 2010, I became a Para for Kindergarten, 2nd grade and Art at St. Hubert School.  I graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Merchandising Management.  I enjoyed a previous career in Retail Management and Human Resources with Dayton's for many years.  I have been a school volunteer for over 10 years. In Fall 2010, I became the Director of SACC, Art Para and Playground Supervisor.

I have a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice Studies from St. Cloud State University with a minor in Literature. My M.S. Degree is from Mankato State University in Rehabilitation Counseling, and I am also a  Licensed Professional Counselor.  Professional jobs have included Child Care Counselor, Juvenile and Adult Probation Officer, Rehabilitation Counselor, Language Arts Teacher and School Counselor. I have been employed with St. Hubert School since 1999.

I have been working in the Chaska School District since 1997 and I started servicing St. Hubert’s School in 2009. As a special education teacher, I serve special education students in grades K-8. Throughout the day, I focus my instruction in the areas of math, writing, reading, organization and social skills emphasizing a multi-modal, hands-on approach to learning. Collaboration and open communication between home and school are essential ingredients for students' success.
