Parent Teacher Organization

The mission of PTO is to enhance the St. Hubert School community through hospitality and fellowship opportunities supporting students, parents, teachers, and staff.  PTO is responsible for hosting special events, welcoming new families, coordinating efforts of room parents, planning staff appreciation days and acknowledging staff and faculty birthdays.  PTO also oversees an initiative that allocates funds toward classroom and teacher needs.  The income necessary to fund its objectives, initiatives and events is generated through “garbage” programs.  PTO also depends upon parent volunteers throughout the year to help its programs come to fruition.  The board meets monthly to review goals, determine needs and coordinate efforts.

Events
Throughout the year, PTO coordinates or hosts several special events including teacher meals, All Saints Day and May Crowning receptions, Festival of the Arts dinner, Wednesday Hospitality, and Kindergarten Open Houses.  PTO also plans staff birthday recognition, appreciation days for various support groups, new family events, and school-wide celebrations.  See below for a complete list of current events.

Programs
Several members of the PTO board serve as committee chairpersons with responsibility for planning and executing specific initiatives including:

Newcomers Club
The Newcomers Club (NCC) was created to serve as the welcome wagon for new families, not only kindergarten families, but any new students' families as they transfer from a different school or another city, state or country.  The club provides a regular flow of school-related information, opportunities to meet other families and a place to ask even the "silly" questions.  NCC also publishes a reference guide and offers to coordinate “buddy families.”  If you have any questions regarding the Newcomers Club, please contact Greer Hussey, greerhussey@gmail.com.

August Playdates
On most Friday mornings in August, you'll find the school playground buzzing with activity as kids play, parents socialize and friendships blossom.  All new families are invited and current families are included to encourage connections across grade levels.  From kindergarten to middle school, recognizing familiar faces during the first few weeks of school can ease the transition significantly.

Morning Coffees
Throughout the school year, NCC coordinates coffees at a local cafe.  These casual gatherings begin with an opportunity to socialize, order a coffee or tea and get comfortable.  Often featured guests will speak about school events, clubs, the parish community or what to expect in certain grades, such as middle school.  It's a kid-friendly venue so younger children are welcome.

Moms Nights Out
Several evenings out are planned each year.  These are informal gatherings allowing for new connections to be made or old friends to catch up.  They are held at a local establishment and do not include a presentation...it's simply a fun night out.

Quick Reference Guide
The Quick Reference Guide was written by NCC members to serve as a parent-to-parent communication tool for new families.  It’s a handy glossary of terms, acronyms and helpful hints intended to familiarize “newbies” with events, terminology, administrative details and St. Hubert-Speak.  For further details on most subjects, families may refer to Sycamore, the school website, or the school office staff.

Target Corporation’s Take Charge of Education at St. Hubert School
As part of an ongoing commitment to supporting education, the PTO is allocating approximately $1000 per month to St. Hubert School classrooms. Take Charge of Education (TCE) funding is supported by Target Corporation's generous gift of 1% of sales purchased with a Target REDcard designated for St. Hubert School (code 9176).  To learn more, or designate St. Hubert School on a Target REDcard, please visit https://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-005174

The TCE initiative at St. Hubert School was conceived out of a desire to channel these funds directly to the students, teachers and classrooms.  Since its inception, the program has provided funding for many classroom enhancements including SMARTBoard interactive applications, reading and language arts enrichment materials, unique field trip opportunities, and various mathematics enrichment resources.

Hospitality
Throughout the year, the Hospitality Committee plans and supports a variety of PTO-sponsored events, including Wednesday Hospitality following school Mass, teacher meals during Fall and Spring conferences, appreciation days for the custodial team, bus drivers, and administrative support, among others, and school wide celebrations such as All Saints Day, May Crowning and Mardi Gras.  Volunteer needs, food preparation and any gifts or services are coordinated through this group.  Each year, the hospitality committee seeks new volunteers to serve a two-year term.

Room Parents
Each fall, PTO recruits parent volunteers to assist homeroom teachers by enriching classroom experiences, coordinating hospitality or facilitating communication.  Specific responsibilities vary according to grade level or teacher needs.

Pre Packaged School Supplies
In the spring, PTO offers a value-added service of selling pre-packaged school supply kits.  Avoid the hassle of shopping, order online and have the kits shipped directly to your home.  Look for ordering information before the end of the school year.

“Garbage” Programs
The “Garbage” Committee is responsible for overseeing a variety of income generating programs.  These incentive programs earn cash and merchandise, which in turn, are allocated toward classroom needs, PTO sponsored events and goodwill opportunities.

Examples of current programs include:

  • Target Corporation’s Take Charge of Education
  • General Mills Box Tops for Education, online and traditional
  • Kemps, Land O’Lakes and Kwik Trip Milk Moola milk cap redemption
  • Campbell’s Labels for Education
  • Ink cartridge recycling; personal and business
  • Fresh Seasons Market Share the Spirit promotion

By turning purchases and “trash” into cash and merchandise, PTO is able to support its activities and initiatives.  Recent examples include contributing toward a new sound system in the gymnasium, funding classroom purchases, digital cameras for classroom use and school community events.

The “Garbage” Committee consists of nearly twenty volunteers led by PTO Vice President/Garbage Chairperson Jennifer Eisenbarth.  The group coordinates existing programs and continuously seeks additional opportunities to financially support PTO’s mission.  They also work to increase participation, improve communication and streamline submission procedures.  If you are interesting in being a part of the garbage team, volunteers are always welcome!  Please email pto@sthubert.org if you have suggestions, questions or interest in the program.

Each program is unique in its structure, redemption guidelines and awards.  Highlights include:

Target Corporation’s Take Charge of Education
This program supports local schools by donating 1% of all Target purchases made with a Target REDcard (and ½% of Target Visa® credit card purchases).  St. Hubert School directly benefits when it is the designated school on a cardholder’s account.  Annual payments are automatically made to the school.  You can enroll and designate St. Hubert School (code 9176) online, call 1-800-316-6142 or visit an in-store kiosk.

General Mills Box Tops for Education
Box Tops for Education symbols are found on many of your favorite General Mills products.  They can be clipped from packaging and sent into school during three contest periods or can be deposited in collection boxes found at school and church.

NEW! Electronic Box Tops for Education
eBox Tops is a new way you can contribute to St. Hubert School by shopping online through www.btfe.com.  Over 200 popular retailers participate including Target, Walmart, Lands’ End and Barnes & Noble.

Milk Cap Redemption
St. Hubert School can earn five cents for every milk cap through the Kemp's "Giv'em Five" Program, Kwik Trip Milk Moola and Land O'Lakes. Just send in the clean, sorted milk caps or the symbol from the paper cartons.

Campbell's Labels for Education
Schools can obtain free educational equipment in exchange for labels from various Campbell’s products.  Campbell's proof of purchase labels are found on many products, and once clipped and sorted, can be submitted during contests or dropped off at school and church.

Recycling Ink Cartridges
Send empty ink cartridges into school in a sealed plastic bag and St. Hubert School will earn between .25 and $10 depending on the cartridge.  Personal and business ink cartridges are both eligible for redemption.

Fresh Seasons Market Share the Spirit Promotion
For several years, Fresh Seasons Market in Victoria has offered schools an opportunity to earn money during its Share the Spirit Contest.  By participating, local schools can win cash prizes simply by submitting store receipts.  Each dollar spent at Fresh Seasons Market during the promotional period – February through April – earns one point.  Tuesdays are “Two Point Tuesdays” ($1=2 points).  At the end of the promotion, several schools are awarded cash prizes.

For additional details about any of the “Garbage” programs, please contact Jennifer Eisenbarth, jeneisenbarth@mac.com.  Interest in, and support of, these programs is appreciated.  Often times, it’s simply a matter of earning the benefits associated with things we are already doing.
