PROP

As part of our effort to make our students more aware of social justice issues affecting people in our area, St. Hubert School’s 1st, 4th, and 6th grades focus their efforts on PROP (People Reaching Out to Other People).  Once a month, one homeroom of 1st, 4th or 6th graders has the opportunity to take the donations directly to PROP, take a tour, learn about the organization and then weigh and sort the food items they bring.  Fortunately, St. Hubert’s partnership with PROP reaches out to the whole parish/school community, staff, and students as donations are brought in each week at the school Mass and one weekend a month for the parish.

Various student groups rally to raise money in unique ways.  Student Council helps organize a Thanksgiving food drive.  The Mardi Gras non-uniform day proceeds go to PROP.

Quietly caring since 1971, PROP serves the communities of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen providing the four basic needs of food, shelter, clothing and medical care.  The organization serves as a vehicle through which donations flow to help families in a dignified way.

Prop’s services include a food shelf (serving over 11,000 individuals in our community), emergency funds for crisis situations, transportation programs, furniture assistance, season programs (gardening, school supplies, Thanksgiving food, and holiday gifts), and information/referral.   Though it is best known as a food shelf, hundreds of families receive assistance through its seasonal programs alone throughout the year.  PROP believes that any person in the community it serves is potentially eligible to be a recipient of PROP services.  At the same time, any person in the area is a potential donor of some beneficial service or commodity.  PROP provides the means by which the donor and the recipient are served.
