ST. HUBERT SCHOOL SPEECH CLUB
FOR GRADES 3 - 8

Beginner Group - Grade 3
This group's focus is on gaining confidence speaking in front of groups. Opportunities are given
for the students to speak into a microphone at a podium, evaluate their peers, and deliver their
own speeches. Students are taught the basics of how to organize their thoughts and prepare to
give a speech. At the end of the 8 week session, parents are invited to attend and watch their
child deliver their final speech.

Advanced Group - Grades 4-8
Students in the Advanced group will continue to work on their speaking skills, organizing their
speech, using their voice and practicing speaking in front of their peers. Students will evaluate
each other and the meeting will be run entirely by the students.
At the end of the 8-week session, students will deliver their final speech to their parents.

Optimist Speech Contest Prep Group - Grades 3-8
The St. Hubert Speech Club meets for eight one-hour sessions that guide students in how to
write and deliver a speech according the Optimist Speech requirements. Students take on
leadership roles while helping each other perfect their techniques. Information from the Eden
Prairie Optimist Club sends this info: Contestants will prepare and deliver a four to five minute
speech before a panel of judges. The students’ speeches will be evaluated based on content and
presentation to determine the top winners. First place and runners-up will receive medallions.
The top winning speeches will be sent to the Zone level where the winning speeches will advance
to the district level for an opportunity to win a $1500 college scholarship awarded by the Optimist
International Foundation.
